SAFETY LIGHT CURTAINS FOR THE PROTECTION OF HAZARDOUS ZONES

The detection capability of electro-sensitive protective equipment (ESPE) is all the more accurate the closer the neighbouring light beams are to each other. This distance is smallest with a so-called light curtain. This is a multi-beam system with a resolution of < 40 mm, which - unlike light grids or light barriers - is also able to detect smaller objects if the protective field is breached, such as hands or individual fingers. In accordance with DIN EN ISO 13855, the biometric data for finger protection is defined as 14 mm, for hand recognition up to 30 mm, etc.

SAFETY LIGHT CURTAINS OF THE SLC SERIES

The SLC series safety light curtains safeguard individual hazardous points and entire danger areas in various applications. These include robot cells, presses, palletising systems, die-casting machines, etc. The light curtains are available in different versions for hand or finger protection and have a corresponding resolution (14 or 30 mm). The standard versions also have IP67 protection, meaning they are dustproof and protected against temporary submersion. The Schmersal Group also offers the SLC series light curtain with increased protection class IP69K. These remain protected even if water penetrates during high-pressure or steam jet cleaning.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS OF THE SAFETY LIGHT CURTAINS: BLANKING AND MUTING

The safety light curtains from Schmersal are available with different functions. This includes blanking for masking selected areas of the protective field as well as muting for targeted bridging of the protective device. These functions are used when materials are fed into the machine, workpieces enter the protective field for processing or products need to be removed. With the help of the relevant accessories and the appropriate safety module as an evaluation unit, each light curtain can also be extended to form a complete safety system.
