Our definition of systems is the sophisticated selection and combination of in house and third party components to achieve the best possible, safe and regulation-compliant design of the machines and systems of our customers which, at the same time, facilitates greater productivity.
Digitalisation and networking will play a decisive role in tomorrow's industrial production. To be in a position to realise future-orientated concepts, the development and manufacture of innovative components and systems are among the most important tasks of the Schmersal Group. We continue to extend our expertise so that we can support our customers in the introduction of next generation digital technologies with automation and safety concepts along with competent consultation services.
The extraordinarily comprehensive product range from the Schmersal Group for monitoring machine safety doors, including, for example, safety switches, solenoid interlocks and safety sensors, enables accurate adaptation of the protective device to the specific application.
When it comes to safe signal processing, the Schmersal Group offers its customers various type-tested solutions featuring a wide range of visualisation and diagnostic options as a function of the complexity and number of safety circuits required.
Non-contact protective equipment (BWS) such as safety light barriers, safety light grids and safety light curtains are used to protect access to hazardous points or hazardous areas. The optoelectronic safety devices feature the emitter and the receiver fitted in two separate enclosures.
Command devices and alarm devices are always used when it is a question of fail-safe communication between humans and machines. Typical applications include the activation of critical machine functions or special operating modes, plus safe stopping of hazardous movements of plant and machine components.
In some application areas, the use of tactile protective equipment which reacts to contact or pressure is recommended. Tactile safety sensors are used, for example, in lifting platforms, lift tables and movable shelf systems.
Schmersal offers its customers a wide range of safety switches with built in AS Safety at Work interface. This is the first safe bus system based on the open AS-International (AS-I) standard. Safety components such as emergency stops, safety switches, solenoid interlocks, safety sensors or safety light curtains are simply interconnected through the AS-Interface profile cable.
In some industrial sectors, safety components must meet the requirements of explosion protection. This applies in particular to the chemicals industry, but also to many areas of the food and automobile industries, for example. Back in the 1950s, Schmersal extended its range to include products which could also be used in explosion-risk areas.
Model 1 limit switches and position switches in accordance with EN ISO 14119 are used for monitoring and position detection of moving parts on systems and machinery as well as on protective devices with rotary or lateral movements. The generated signal can be transmitted pneumatically, mechanically, electrically or hydraulically. The universal switches are used in all industrial sectors and almost all areas of automation technology.
