SECURE SIGNAL PROCESSING

When it comes to safe signal processing, the Schmersal Group offers its customers various type-tested solutions featuring a wide range of visualisation and diagnostic options as a function of the complexity and number of safety circuits required. These include universally applicable safety relay modules, the PROTECT PSC range of modular safety controllers, the multi-functional PROTECT SELECT safety controller and safety-oriented bus systems.

PROGRAMMABLE SAFETY CONTROLLERS PROTECT PSC1

The optional centralised or decentralised modular structure allows the PROTECT PSC1 range of safety controllers to be adapted exactly to the relevant application. This gives the user the significant benefit of being able to work cost-effectively. The area of application is in particular in modern production systems and standalone machines with complex designs. Software-based configuration of individual safety systems is possible using the PROTECT PSC1 safety controller. A communications interface supports conventional standard fieldbus systems and enables safe cross communication via Ethernet Safety Master to Master Communication (SMMS) and secure remote IOS via Ethernet Safety Device to Device Communication (SDDC). The PROTECT PSC1 range of safety controllers enables safe signal processing of emergency off/emergency stop command devices, safety door monitoring systems, safety light grids and safety sensors. Optionally, it is possible to transfer additional non-secure diagnostic signals via a standard bus system to an automation controller. This also allows signals to be evaluated, that are relevant to prevent downtimes and increasing plant availability.

COMPACT SAFETY CONTROLLERS WITH FUNCTION FOR PROGRAMME SELECTION

The flexible, compact PROTECT SELECT safety controller opens up numerous opportunities for design application to implement different safety functions based on the requirements of the application. Up to six two-channel safety switchgear systems can be connected to the module. Four pre-configured basic programs allow simple adaptation of the safety controller to the relevant application without programming knowledge.

MULTIFUNCTIONAL SAFETY RELAY MODULES PROTECT SRB-E

The multi-functional safety relay modules in the PROTECT SRB-E range are available in eight options and can therefore cover a wide range of possible applications. Their role is to analyse safe signals from automatic opening position switches, various safety sensors and emergency off/emergency stop command devices, magnetic safety switches and optoelectronic protective equipment such as light barriers and light grids. The safety relay modules in the PROTECT SRB-E range can be used in applications up to Cat. 4 / PL e per 13849-1 and SIL 3 per EN 62061 / IEC 61508. Up to eleven applications can be configured using just one SRB module, meaning numerous existing modules can be replaced.

SAFETY RELAY MODULES SRB-EXI

In the explosion-proof mode SRB-EXi, the safety relay modules from Schmersal have IECEx and INMETRO approval. They are suitable for safe signal evaluation of emergency stop systems and for safety door monitoring.

OUTPUT EXTENSIONS SRB

The space-saving output expanders in the SRB range are used for contact multiplication and are designed for safe evaluation in emergency off/emergency stop circuits based on category 0 and 1 in accordance with EN 60201-1.

INPUT EXPANDERS PROTECT-PE

The PROTECT-PE series input expanders enable connection of up to four sensors with signals carrying voltage. If more protective equipment is to be monitored, multiple input expanders can be cascaded.

FAIL-SAFE STANDSTILL MONITORS

Standstill monitors are designed for the fail-safe detection of machine standstill and control of solenoid interlocks. Depending on the external circuitry, there is the option of securing protective equipment up to Category 4, PL e in accordance with EN ISO 13849-1.

FAIL-SAFE DELAY TIMER AZS

Using an AZS fail-safe time relay, a switching on or off delay can be achieved via the safe measurement of a pre-defined time. It is used, for example, when hazardous situations can occur after switching off a machine or system, such as run-on movements of rollers, shafts, etc. The AZS time relay from Schmersal is adjustable from 0.1 s to 99 min and has three safety contacts and two signalling outputs.

SRB 100DR SAFETY RELAY MODULES FOR DOUBLE ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

A safety relay module with double acknowledgement guarantees that the operator is outside the danger areas before the machine controller can be switched on again. To do this, the operator first presses the reset button inside the system and then another one which is outside the walk-in plant area. The SRB 100DR safety relay for double acknowledgement is suitable for applications up to PL e/Cat. 4 in accordance with EN ISO 13649-1 and up to SIL 3 in accordance with IEC 61508.

SAFETY RELAY MODULES FOR TWO-HAND CONTROL PANELS

The safety relay modules for two-handed control are designed to connect two control devices, each of which is fitted with a normally-closed and a normally-open contact on an antivalent basis. They are suitable for applications up to PL e/ control category 4 to EN ISO 13849-1 and up to SIL 3 to IEC 61508.
