The latest edition of the SRB-EXi safety relay modules combines functional safety, reliable signal processing and safety release with the requirements of explosion protection. It monitors the connected sensors, E-STOP command devices, interlocking devices, reset buttons and safety sensors with the intrinsic safety ‘i’ type of protection. The modules were designed on the basis of the ATEX Directive 94/9/EC and the European standards EN 60 079 ff. The EXi monitoring circuits are intrinsically safe and designed for category 2GD or 3G devices in accordance with ATEX, IECEx and INMETRO. Accordingly, emergency stop command devices and safety door monitors can be used in dust and gas explosion hazard areas.
The sensors can be installed in zones 1/2 and 21/22, the PROTECT SRB-EXi modules in a suitable switch cabinet in gas Ex zone 2. Schmersal's product portfolio includes two versions of the safety relays: the SRB 101Exi module with one safety contact and the SRB 200Exi version with two safety contacts. Both versions are used to process signals from E-STOP command devices, interlocking devices and other machine safety components. With both the SRB 101Exi and SRB 200Exi models, the user has the choice between an automatic reset function (type version 1A) or a reset with edge detection (1R).
In addition to the SRB-EXi safety relay modules, Schmersal's comprehensive product range also includes other safety relay modules from the PROTECT SRB series for the safe evaluation of switching signals. Signalling devices are mounted to the side on slidable, rotating or removable safety equipment and can, for example be an EMERGENCY STOP button, an electromechanical position switch, a safety switch, or a solenoid interlock. Also for optoelectronic protective devices (AODPs) the PROTECT SRB modules are available.
