SAFETY LIGHT CURTAINS FOR PROTECTING HAZARDOUS AREAS

The detection capability of non-contact protective devices (BWS) is more accurate the closer the adjacent light beams are to each other. This distance is shortest in a so-called light curtain. This is a multi-beam system with a resolution of < 40 mm which, unlike light grids or light barriers, is also able to detect smaller objects, such as hands or individual fingers, when the protective field is violated. According to DIN EN ISO 13855, the biometric data for finger protection is specified as 14 mm, for hand detection as 30 mm, etc.

SAFETY LIGHT CURTAINS OF THE SLC SERIES

The safety light curtains of the SLC series secure individual danger points and entire danger areas in various applications. These include robot cells, presses, palletising systems, die-casting machines, etc. The light curtains are available in different versions for hand or finger protection and have a corresponding resolution (14 or 30 mm). The standard versions also have protection class IP67, meaning they are dust-tight and protected against temporary immersion. In addition, the Schmersal Group offers the SLC series light curtain with the increased protection class IP69K. These remain protected even when water penetrates during high-pressure or steam jet cleaning.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS OF THE SAFETY LIGHT CURTAINS: BLANKING AND MUTING

The safety light curtains from Schmersal are available with various functions. These include blanking for blanking out selected areas of the protective field and muting for targeted bypassing of the protective device. These functions are used when materials are fed into the machine, workpieces enter the protective field for processing or products need to be removed. With the help of the appropriate accessories and the suitable safety module as the evaluation unit, each light curtain can also be expanded into a complete safety system.
