OPTOELECTRONIC SAFETY DEVICES: SAFETY LIGHT CURTAINS FOR SAFEGUARDING HAZARDOUS AREAS
In terms of the detection capability of electro-sensitive protective equipment (ESPE), safety light grids lie between simple light barriers and light curtains, which have a particularly small distance between neighbouring light beams. Due to the low resolution compared to safety light curtains, light grids are more likely to be used when the intrusion of the entire body - and not just hands or individual fingers - is to be detected.OPTOELECTRONIC SAFETY DEVICES: SAFETY LIGHT GRIDS OF THE SLG SERIES
The SLG series safety light curtains ensure the safeguarding of individual hazardous points as well as complete danger areas in various applications, including robot cells, die-casting machines, presses, palletising systems, etc. The optoelectronic light curtains are easy to connect via an M12 plug connection and have a diagnostic interface as well as an LED display on which various status messages can be read. They are available with different resolutions of 300, 400 or 500 mm. As standard, the grilles have a degree of protection of IP67 in accordance with ISO 20653. They are therefore dustproof and also protected against temporary submersion. The Schmersal Group also offers light grids from the SLG series with increased protection class IP69K. These are protected from water penetration even during high-pressure or steam jet cleaning.
ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS OF THE OPTOELECTRONIC SAFETY DEVICES AND ACCESSORIES
Certain versions of the SLG series are equipped with blanking and muting functions. While blanking is used to mask selected areas of the protective field, muting is used for targeted bridging of the protective device. Schmersal also offers various accessories for the safety light curtains, which can be used to convert a light curtain into a complete safety system. These include protective housings and covers as well as deflecting mirrors, bus converters and test rods. Schmersal also develops customised optoelectronic safety devices according to individual specifications and offers comprehensive advice in the entire field of machine safety.
