The SSG-SBL series safety bumper is a protective device with approach function and is designed to prevent hazards to people or certain body parts as they approach a hazard point. This is achieved, for example, by switching off, reversing or stopping the movement that is causing the hazardous situation. For this purpose, an actuating force must act on a signalling device and a control command must be generated simultaneously by means of an evaluation unit. In principle, this type of tactile protective device consists of a signal transmitter or sensor, signal transmission, signal processing and signal output. As a rule, signal processing and output are combined within one evaluation unit. Safety bumpers are used on automatically-closing doors, autonomous trucks to guard the travel direction and on moving machine parts to guard against crush and shear points. These are just a few examples of ways in which they can be used.
RISK ASSESSMENT OF THE SAFETY-RELATED BUMPER SSG-SBL
SSG-SBL signal generators feature dual-channel detection, which can be evaluated in failsafe switching technology in two safety monitoring modules. The safety bumpers are thus consistent with the safety requirements of standard EN 954-1. In conjunction with the SRB-QS.2 or SRB-NA-R-C.17 safety monitoring modules, the signal generators have a BG-test certificate.
DESIGN OF THE SAFETY-RELATED BUMPERS
The sensors of the SSG-SBL bumpers are electromechanical switching elements with positive-break normally-closed contacts. Each contact is installed in its own switching chamber. Actuation is carried out by means of separate actuating plungers. The fact that the switching elements are simply pre-assembled on printed circuit boards means that complex mechanical actuation mimicry is avoided. On request, the mechanical strength of the safety bumpers can be further increased by a multi-layer Kevlar fabric skin.
